This week in Maths, we have been investigating length, area and perimeter. This is the task we had:
“Granny has bought a new rug for her hallwaythat measures 1m x 1m. Unfortunately, she gets it home and finds it is too wide for her hallway!” Make Granny’s rug and calculate the area and perimeter of it. Resize Granny’s rug so it has the same area but will fit into her hallway (it has to be less than 1 metre wide!) Calculate the area and perimeter of her new rug. What do you notice? Record sketches and measurements of your rugs and write some statements about what you have discovered about area and perimeter.
In Art, we have been developing our mosaicing skills. Progress is slow and it is time consuming but we are looking forward to seeing our finished artworks. We have each designed a symbol of Confirmation and have been transforming these into colourful mosaics. Here are a few photos of us at work:
Quadblogging for 2013 begins for us the first week of Term 2, the week beginning 15th April. What is quadblogging you may ask?
Can you guess from the name????
Well, quadblogging is when we are linked up with three other schools around the world so we can visit each other’s blogs and share each other’s learning. There is a roster for being the ‘focus blog’ for the week and when it is our turn, our quadblogging buddies will visit our blog. When it is their turn, we will do the same. It will be great to have a wider audience for our blog and to make some great new connections around the world.
Can you think of some good questions for our quadblogging buddies?

Today we began the first of our Picture Story Book discussion triads. We chose a leader and the leader read his/her story to the group. We then worked together to discuss some of the important elements and features of the book. Some of the things we focused on were:
characters – their traits, looks, actions, attitudes
setting – how it impacts the story
messages contained within the story
illustrations and their relationship to the text
Here are some photos of us in action!
