The 5/6 M and M Gallery Viewing Team did a wonderful job sharing all our Term 1 learning with our school community. It was great to have our blog to showcase some of the great work we have done during the term and the ‘Harlem Shuffle‘ was a BIG hit with all the visitors to our room. We also enjoyed going around to some of the other classes and seeing what they have been learning about. Here are some photos of our team in action – well done team!
Hi there to our 5/6 friends at Dunalley Primary School! We have made a video to give you a smile and a laugh. It certainly gave us a lot of smiles and laughs while we were making it.
Lots of love, 5/6 M and M
In maths this week we are focusing on ESTIMATION. Today we played a game called ice ice maybe. We played this game in groups of four, one person played on the computer and the other three played it in their maths book and then they rotated until everyone had a go. Here is a link to the the game
We had to create icebergs for the penguins to jump on based on estimating the equations on the screen. The higher levels got faster and faster. Here is some of us in action:
This week in literacy, we have been looking into the features of a picture story book. Our class, 5/6 M and M have been split into groups of up to four and have taken turns in sharing their picture story book that they have chosen to study. As well as discussing our picture story book, we also had to create a front cover for our litracy book along with a favourite picture and sentence. Here are Paul, Emma and Bianca’s front covers for our literacy activity which were chosen by Mary as the best picture story book front covers.
Today we began the first of our Picture Story Book discussion triads. We chose a leader and the leader read his/her story to the group. We then worked together to discuss some of the important elements and features of the book. Some of the things we focused on were:
- characters – their traits, looks, actions, attitudes
- setting – how it impacts the story
- messages contained within the story
- illustrations and their relationship to the text
- rich language
